From 2 â€“ 7 June 2014, the 28th International Machine-Tool Exhibition opened its doors again in Bilbao, Spain. IK4-Ideko showcased its expertise in manufacturing and the Hippocamp project was promotioned Â in its stand. Â A total number of 35,500 people, 4.2% more than in the previous edition, visited the exhibition. Professionals from 57 countries have tested the quality and capacity of machines, accessories, components and industrial equipment exhibited in the halls of the Bilbao Exhibition Centre. The most represented countries in terms of visitors to BIEMH were: Portugal, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Russia, Netherlands, Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, the US, Chile, Venezuela, Algeria, Morocco, China, India, Taiwan, Australia and the Fiji Islands to name some exotic and faraway countries.
Qilin Fu demonstrated HIPPOCAMP project at the 6th Surface Engineering Seminar hosted by Swedish Production Society at KTH.
By introducing the HIPIMS technology, advanced surface generation by our coating technology shows impressive improvement on surface quality and roughness, over conventional technology such as arc discharge evaporation and DC sputtering. Recent advances in HIPIMS power supply is demonstrated with higher discharge power while suppressing arcing discharge. It has opened more possibilities of using HIPIMS technology for other types of coatings. The concept of HIPPOCAMP has attracted other researchersâ€™ interest with basic research focusing at the physical principle of damping mechanism in materials.
Daniel Lundin from Ionautics participated at the last ICMCTF conference/industrial fair in San Diego where he explained details about the HiPIMS technology which is Ionautics' contribution to Hippocamp European project. In addition to introducing this plasma technology, the conference was a proper place for networking and get in touch with several large manufacturers of deposition equipment , who could be also looking into the possibility of implementing our HiPIMS Pulsing hardware (HiPSTER units) into their product line.
The 6M meeting of HIPPOCAMP project took place in IK4-Ideko on 12nd of March and in Soraluce on13rd. The project officer, Gustaf Winroth, attended the meeting as well as the consortium members. The meeting was held in order to inform about the project statement, update the last activities and make a plan of the tasks that each participant is going to carry out during the following months.
Diad Group has participated on a test day at the Pragelato Ice Track in December 2013 with its own lab cars for low temperature testing. The ice track is a perfect venue for the vehicle testing of components and technologies, as it allows to have extreme conditions on one hand, and on the other to have a full and direct monitoring of the behavior of the tested pieces. These events are attended by technologically highly specialized companies, which represent part of the target audience for our dissemination goals. The Hippocamp project has started to be promoted.
The kick-off meeting of HIPPOCAMP project took place on November 6th and 7th 2013, in Oulu. The main objectives of the meeting wereÂ to establish relations between all partners, provide clarification about administrative issues and define the specific work that each participant was going to carry out during the following months.
Hippocamp project started on the 1st of october. During the 3 years of the project the main objective will be to develop novel manufacturing process required to develop nanocomposites and use them as embedded reinforcements to improve the functional properties of products made of engineered metallic material such as structural components for automotive, aerospace, manufacturing and wind turbine applications.
